About Melody Shantala Sacco (IT/UK)

Based in Vienna, Melody is an interdisciplinary artist, dancer, teacher, performer, Somatic Movement Educator and massage therapist.
Having graduated high school with a visual arts specialisation (1996), she began training as an architect at [1997]. In [1999] she changed her focus to dance and graduated, in [2003] from the Theatre-Academy Paolo Grassi in Milan, Italy with a BA in Dance-Theatre. She also holds a postgraduate certificate in Community Dance (2009) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London UK.

She is a certified Somatic Movement Educator (SME) by the School of Body-Mind Centering® throughEmbody Move UK (2016) and currently taking Practictioner levelas. She is also a Thai Yoga Massage and integrated bodywork practitioner.

Other disciplines and studies informing her work include child development, Contact Improvisation, Action Theatre, meditation & embodied spiritual practice.
In the last 15 years, she has worked as a dance  and somatic movement teacher in England, Italy, Austria and Spain. She has freelanced for several dance companies and organisations (Laban, Green Candle, Chisenahale, Greenwich dance, Danceability, Rollingpoint and more), bringing dance and body awareness to children and young people from age 6 months to 14 years years old and to adults of all ages and abilities.
The experience of pregnancy and becoming a mother in 2013 has enriched her approach to dance and teaching. She is passionate about inspiring and supporting women through pregnancy and motherhood.

In 2014 she founded and co-created the Living Arts Base community project, with a group of international artists, in Spain. The project is a space to live, research, explore and to promote creative expression, dance and self-awareness.

Alongside teaching Melody continues to dance and perform. Her experience includes improvised and choreographed, solo and group performances. Her practice is informed by site-specific movement in nature & somatic.
